I don’t plan on posting much personal stuff on this weblog, but I haven’t posted anything else besides my first post and I wanted to explain why. My grandmother died last week. She was a really wonderful person and influenced me quite a bit growing up. I knew her as Nonnie.
It was hard watching someone so intelligent go through the stages of Alzheimer’s disease. Seeing her for the last time a week or so before she died was one of the hardest experiences I’ve ever had. She was a fighter though, and even within the past year she was still pretty damn sharp when I saw her.
This is really the first time as an adult that I’ve experienced death first hand. It took a while for the sadness and loss to really hit me, but now I realize the significance of it. I’m really going to miss her.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune (our local paper) wrote up an article about her for the obituaries section.
